Independent Research conducted to find the motivation behind why individuals crochet.
This experience helped me realize that people are often driven by both internal passion and external rewards when they choose to do something.
Using insights from the literature review, I designed a survey that was distributed online through platforms such as Reddit and Facebook.
Using the survey to help shape my interview questions, I was able to hear the personal stories behind why people crochet and what first got them started.
According to my research findings, people who crochet are motivated by both extrinsic and intrinsic factors. The act of creating something tangible and giving it as a gift often fuels extrinsic motivation. On the other hand, the desire to improve one’s skills and the sense of accomplishment that comes with finishing a project are key intrinsic motivators.
For many, crochet isn’t just a hobby—it’s the perfect obsession.
